In which Celes and Locke make their way through the Magitek Factory in search of more espers along with any treasure that isn't nailed down.
And he's singing about it. |
The what? Hmm, we should look in to that. Make sure you get the treasure here. |
He gives that blue woman the boot. |
I didn't even see that. He probably used his camouflage to get away with it for so long. |
You follow them down in to the garbage pits. The blue woman will not react. |
The scroop blorking around down here has not only become sentient, it no doubt has its own political system. Unlike everything else here, Flans have a very low defense. Since they've been crawling around amongst dead espers, they'll have chunks of magicite which allow you to summon a random Esper of the game's choosing. Dance, ya fucker, dance ya fucker, don't you dare, don't you flan in the face. |
Unless you've only played Final Fantasy I, II, and/or XII, maybe IV because who the hell summmoned Ifrit in that? you'd know who this guy is. Obviously, he absorbs fire and is weak to ice. He also has Blaze and fire spells. That's obvious. Three spells lead to Fire 3. |
Shiva is exactly like Ifrit, only ice-based. Blizzard replaces Blaze, reflecting on you and bouncing ice spells off of her to heal herself replaces fire 3, and that's it. Shiva is the reason you don't want to just put on SlamDancer and run on auto-pilot. She appears after Ifrit does stuff. |
Since they can sense Ramuh with you, they decide to join forces with you instead. |
Which is good, becuase there are Generals here. Make sure you fight them. They're not as defensive as everyone else, they're weak to poison like normal humans and not robots, and they can restore their health with Cure 2. Which you can do as well when you find some Generals wandering about the Veldt, leap on their backs, and ride around on them. Yee-haw! |
Rhinox absorbs lightning (!) and can cast Life3, which brings a character back to life upon dying. That is, if they had 50 MP. They try to poison you with Bane Strike as well. |
Trappers descend from the ceiling to use L3 Muddle, L4 Flare, and L5 Doom. People who's level is prime are immune to everything they can throw at you, but 22, 14, and 26 can get away as well. |
Gobblers are turkey vultures that got into the Magitek Factory. When alone, they use shimsham and nothing but shimsham. Use Runic if Celes is in any need of refilling MP. It's good for something, at least. |
There, I've shown you everything. Quite the difficult task, if you ask me, since some enemies didn't want to appear. |
That guy standing in front of the doorway is Number 024. You can steal either a Rune Edge or a Drainer from him. He doesn't have a Program x to execute, but it's implied that he's a robot. |
His main tactic is to Wall Change a lot. If you've played only XII, fire and ice are opposites. Poison and pearl don't have opposites. |
After three changes, he does this instead. A message says "system error" and he summons an ice rabbit. |
Then he uses Sun Bath. Then he scans himself. Then the regular battle repeats. It's amusing, but you might not want to prolong the battle so you can see it. Unless you're trying to see it, anyway. |
Once he's dead have Celes as your leader and fight one more battle (there are other ways to do it, but this is the easiest), move on to this room with espers in some kind of tube. The espers include a whale, a unicorn, a beast man, and a green thing. Espers! Bioduplication! Nude conspiracies! Oh my God! Lyndon LaRouche was right! |
You get a bunch of espers, which I'll showcase at the end of the game! Unicorn has some decent spells to teach, although slow, and has Heal Horn, which looks kind of cool and removes every status ailment except for imp from everyone. Maduin uses a non-elemental attack that is expensive and teaches all the level 2 elemental spells. Shoat teaches some useful spells and uses Demon Eye to turn enemies into stone. Phantom teaches you berserk to use on Cyan and Vanish to use the cheapass technique of Vanish-Doom and uses Fader to set vanish on your party, making him quite possibly the most worthwhile esper in the game. Carbunkl uses Ruby Power to set reflect on everyone. Bismark, named for Hitler, North Dakota, teaches spells you should have by now at an obscene rate, teaches Life at a too-slow rate, and uses Sea Song to inflict water-elemental damage at too high a cost. |
The ubiquitous Cid of Final Fantasy VI. This Cid wants to be April O'Neill. |
No, they're just here to steal things. |
And here comes Kefka. Magicite is dead espers. Soylent Green is people. Soap is made from aborted babies! We must put and end to this! Ban pornographic and subversive music, video games, and clothing. |
I just made a deal that will keep the Empire out of here forever. |
Locke is none too pleased about this. Cyan is, as he's ignoring the fact that he is in imminent danger to gloat about being right. What a geezebag. |
Gau and Edgar have no comment on the matter. Mr. Thou wouldn't have any commentary even if he was around. |
You think that what you did that I'm going to trust you? |
This deal is getting worse all the time. |
Get on the elevator and make your escape. Before this, Celes teleports away, taking Kefka and the two soldiers in Magitek Armor with her and leaving Locke behind to question her loyalty, Gau to remain silent, and if Cyan was here, to strut around with a smug look on his face. |
This thing that was probably a supply transport will take you out. There are Mag Roaders on the way, some kind of monster-tricycle hybrid that someone thought was a good idea. Since they're easy to kill, they weren't, much like the Chinese segways and a Scooty Puff Jr. painted black and renamed Hellspawn Rocket War Mechs with super-soakers renamed Hydrophaser Cannons (credit to someone on Chefelf for that one) My question is, are they chasing you or do they just live down there? Red Mag Roaders cast Ice and Ice 2 and will only be there if you followed my instructions, were hardcore enough to bring Cyan along for the ride, or turned your leader into an imp during the ride. Purple Mag Roaders will always be there, and cast Fire and Fire 2. |
Oh, it's a pony. I never could get those things to work. Must be a conspiracy of sorts. |
Number 128 is supposedly a robot with flesh on it. He has a tempest, which is a weapon to make Cyan less of a Big Fat Suck and something to cheat horribly by putting on Gau much later in the game. STEAL IT. Left Blade uses Shimsham. The body drains HP, casts Ice, and throws nets. After removing both arms, he hastes himself and starts using Gale Cut, Atomic Ray, Shockwave, and the dreaded Blaster. Blaster is an instant kill. That's bad. Blaster is inaccurate. That's good. If everyone is somehow in vanish status when he does use Blaster, you will pay the price for your lack of vision and see the Game Over screen. That's bad. If you kill all three parts at the same time, you get two Phoenix Downs. That's good. Killing all three parts at once is hard and not worth attempting. That's bad. |
You won. That's good. You're not out of Vector yet. That's bad. This is Chaser. As a robot, they are part of the International Robot Conspiracy and they have tek lasers and can half your level with Dischord. It uses a single-target attack called Plasma. Killing Chaser makes two trappers descend from the heavens. You know what trappers do; refresh your memory by going back a few screenshots if you don't. Let's move on. |
So that's where he ended up. No sign of Celes. |
Kefka plays his trump card. |
You get Setzer now. And right now, he sucks and even Cyan would be better. Hell, Cyan has the Tempest now, and the Tempest most certainly does not suck. Horray! He's adequate! Anyway... Setzer Gabbiani: Advantages: Can become game-breakingly powerful late in the game. Also, he can get items long before you're supposed to have them. Crystal Armor in the first phase of the game. Those of you who have played know what I mean by phase and those of you who haven't, go on, get out of here. Unless you don't want to play, in which case, welcome. Would you like a pomegranate? Disadvantages: Not so great until the end of the game. Slots are unpredictable. If you get the summon one, it will be in a situation where you didn't want that summon. Has an instant death attack that you will probably never see. Arbitrary Coolness Rating: 6, with his coat getting some of the points... until the end of the game, anyway. |

The bosses are two cranes, which have apparently disabled the Blackjack's hyperdrive and stopped it in its tracks. The right one is fire-based and if you attack it with fire 3 times, it uses Fire 3. The left one is lightning based, and if you attack it with lightning, it uses Giga Volt as opposed to the equivalent Bolt 3. After a minute, it uses Magnitude 8 with the message "the crane shook the deck." You're not dumb enough to attack a crane with its elemental affinity multiple times, but if you attack one of them three times, it uses the other one's affinity on it, charging it. Both of them have Iron Ball, which deals physical damage. If you have Gau, Aqua Rake (use Anguiform) will make short work of the cranes. The right crane has a Debilitator (gives a monster a random elemental weakness), but you can get one later, so don't worry. I'll see you back in Zozo. |
